Car insurance is one part of our family budget that we will always have to deal with and so it behooves us to get better informed. We would all love to buy some form of discount auto insurance. The reality of that already exists. There are more discounts auto insurance than ever before. Some of the newer vehicles have so many of them that they are often cheaper to insure than some of the older vehicles. Let’s review some of the discounts available when purchasing car insurance.

Multiple Policy Discount – This one is common and yet there are many people that do not take advantage of this discount. This discount can be as high as 15% with some companies.

Good Driver Discounts – Insurance companies love to reward the driver that has an excellent driving record. These are profitable policyholders and help bring the over all rates down.

Auto Safety Features Discount – Automobiles with airbags and seatbelts receive lower rates. Anti-lock brakes and anti-theft devices also lower car insurance rates. The vehicle identification number will identify all of these features and so it is important to give that number to whoever is quoting your car insurance.

Young Driver Discounts – Many companies give substantial discounts for high school and college students that have a 3.0 grade point average or better. The drivers training discount has been a standard discount for young drivers. Find a company that has both and you will help lower premium dramatically.

Senior Citizens Discounts – Drivers 55 and older are given retirement discounts if no longer employed. Homemakers can qualify automatically at age 55 with some companies. Mature driver discounts are also available when a driving course is completed.

Lower Tort Option – There are some states that have a lower or limited tort option. This is your ability to sue for pain and suffering. The lower tort option limits your ability to sue but at the same time it can save you 20% or more in your premium. Contact your agent or insurance company about the tort laws in your state.

Low Cost Auto Insurance

Low cost auto insurance is easier to get now than it used to be, largely due to the internet. At one time, the only way to compare discount offers was to visit the insurer’s offices and discuss it with them.

You could also telephone, but you know what it’s like when you ask for a quotation over the phone. The second you hang up you remember a question you meant to ask. It can get quite costly on phone charges! The internet, however, makes it a lot easier for you to find the low price quotes that many companies are offering but that would more difficult to find without it.

A lot depends on the type of car you have, and if yours is older you should not only get the lowest quote, but also the protection that lemon laws provide against anything going wrong in the short term. The internet allows you not only to get low cost auto insurance online, but also to compare cheap new car insurance quotes from a number of different companies.

Not only can you do this manually by visiting the websites of insurers offering online price reductions, but also have it done for you by means of the various auto insurance price comparison sites available on the internet. These look at the policies of different auto insurers and compare the prices offered for a variety of options. If you are looking to buy cheap auto insurance online, then this is an excellent way in which to compare what is available.

The lowest quote might not be the best deal if you have specific needs in mind. For example, you are going to pay more if you want your new driver daughter put on your own policy.Perhaps you want to insure your car for any driver, or have a low, or even zero, deductible. Cheap policy is available if you are willing to forego these luxuries of the auto insurance world, and opt for just a basic policy.

Quite frankly, a large number of people are over-insured for their needs, and would be just as well off with any of the online car insurance lowest rates offers that are being offered by top class and well respected companies. Fully comprehensive policies give you a lot of peace of mind, but many of the extras are not really necessary. Its amazing the difference a $100 deductible makes to your policy, and sometimes it can be more cost effective taking a separate glass policy out with a specialist rather than adding it to your regular coverage.

It is not difficult to get a car low insurance if you know what you are doing, and it helps if you understand how the auto insurance business works. The basic car insurance policy is not what you pay; the options are adjusted until you are given a low cost auto insurance quote that meets your personal needs. Some companies are willing to offer options that others are not, although most will take your driving history into account.

You have most influence over the number of drivers, the deductible and level of cover. The cheapest is third party only, and if you have an old car then that is all you really need.Your car is likely to be written off in the event of a serious collision and it is not worth having a comprehensive insurance policy for an old car.

If you are negotiating for a low cost auto insurance, then the factors that will help you most will be to insure only yourself for driving the car, opt for a higher deductible and if you want a fully comprehensive policy, then buy a lower cost car. Nobody can expect a low price car insurance quote on a $300,000 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster!

Evan Asked:

I’m really puzzled – my brother and I have decided to swap rustbuckets as I need something a bit better on motorways and he has always coveted my VW campervan. I’ve been getting insurance quotes for his old Rover 420 SLDi which is worth not much above scrap value. Mine’s worth about £2000. My insurance was about £200 per year, fully comp, albeit with a mileage cap – but I can’t get a quote for less than £450, third party only with a massive excess for the Rover – and I’ve tried everywhere.

Nothing’s changed but the vehicle and I have never had an accident and I’ve been driving for 8 years (I’m 34). My postcode’s dreadful but the camper’s survived here for 5 years unscathed because I get on with my neighbours.

Why do they want to change me so much for insuring a worthless car? Or have I just not tried enough insurers?

Cheers!

if you are on third party it doesn’t matter if the car is worth 1 pound or 1 million pound. They only insure you for the damage you do to others, so I guess they reckon you’d do more damage on this one than on the other, due to engine size and more vehicle weight etc.
have you tried these

they do pay as you go and will give you a no claim bonus after 8 month
